What therapy with me actually looks like…
There isn't one single way therapy with me looks. The way we work together depends on what brings you in, what you're hoping to change or understand, and what feels most supportive for you.
You may come to me specifically for sex therapy, CNM or polyamory support, trauma, or IFS/parts work. Or you may find that several of these areas overlap. Often, they do.
My approach is collaborative and individualized. Rather than trying to fit you into a particular treatment model, we'll work together to understand what's happening, identify what you want to be different, and determine which therapeutic approaches make the most sense for you.
Below is a little more about what therapy with me might look like depending on what brings you in.
🌿 If You're Coming to Me for Trauma Therapy
In our sessions, we may:
Identify the parts of you that are showing up around a particular concernBecome curious about what those parts are trying to accomplishExplore what they may be protecting you fromUnderstand where certain beliefs, reactions, or patterns may have developedDevelop a different relationship with these parts of yourselfWork toward helping protective parts feel safer so they don't have to work quite so hardBe in our bodies and turning inward more than we will be talking (more akin to meditation)
💗 If You're Coming to Me for Sex Therapy
In our sessions, we may:
Explore concerns around desire, arousal, orgasm, or sexual functioningTalk about sexual communication and intimacyExplore shame, beliefs, expectations, or messages you've received about sexLook at how relationships and attachment can influence sexualityExplore body image and your relationship with your bodyWork through sexual concerns that may be connected to trauma or past experiencesDevelop practical strategies and exercises when appropriate
🌿💗 If You're Coming to Me for IFS + Sex Therapy
Together, we may explore:
Parts connected to sexual shame or embarrassmentParts that feel pressure to perform or pleaseConflicting feelings around desire and intimacyBody image and sexualityVulnerability and emotional closenessTrauma that may be showing up in your sexual experiencesDifferent parts of yourself that want different things
🧡 If You're Coming to Me for CNM or Polyamory Therapy
In our sessions, we may:
Explore jealousy, insecurity, or comparisonNavigate changes in relationship structureDevelop or revisit agreements and boundariesExplore differences in relationship desiresProcess difficult feelings around a partner's other relationshipsTalk through communication and conflictExplore relationship anarchy, hierarchical or non-hierarchical relationships, solo polyamory, open relationships, or other forms of CNMExplore what you actually want your relationships to look like rather than assuming there is one "right" way to practice CNM
💫 When Your Concerns Overlap
You don't have to come into therapy with a perfectly defined category.
Maybe you're coming in because you're struggling with your sex life, but as we begin talking, we discover that trauma or attachment is part of the picture.
Maybe you're experiencing jealousy in your polyamorous relationship, and we discover that an old wound around abandonment is being activated.
Maybe you're interested in IFS but aren't sure exactly what you want to work on yet.
That's okay.
Therapy doesn't have to fit neatly into one box.
Your sexuality, relationships, attachment, trauma history, and internal world can all influence one another.
Part of our work together may be figuring out what is most important to focus on first.
